Shiraz from South Eastern Australia
This is a wonderful old standby wine to enjoy on your own or to bring to a party. The past several years have been rated in the high 80's by various publications. You should be tasting rich dark fruits like plums, cherries, and blackberries. Think of that end of summer berry pie grandma used to make (with out the crust). It is smooth and a little on the sweet side. The finish is long and ends on a spicy note (that would be the cinnamon that Grandma added to the pie filling). All in all this is a very good wine for the price and will likely be good a year from now if you lose it in your basement or something.
I'm thinking lamb with this one. A nice rare rack of lamb with some mustard and garlic rubbed in right before it hit a really hot oven. On the other hand, I think this might do well with a dessert. Something with berries and chocolate. Perhaps even a bowl of black cherry ice cream. That one is for you Dad!
