Shiraz-Cabernet from Souther Eastern Australia
This is a blended wine of both Shiraz (southern hemispere) or Syrah (northern hemishpere) grapes and the Cabernet grapes. You'll taste mostly the lighter Shiraz flavors in this wine tho. It's dark in color, rich in aroma. You start with berries and smooth vanilla and end with some spicyness. All along it's soft and easy to drink. You could also taste some oak and chocolate if you pay attention.
This is an excellent wine for those simple and impromptu wine and cheese parties and we seem to be growing very fond of lately. Think of some cheeses with a little spice in them - a cave aged gruyere or an herbed goat cheese. I think anything with rosemary would be wonderful as well with this wine - but just a little bit of rosemary. Of course you also serve it with a meat dish - I'm thinking a beef carpaccio or something there the meat is delicate and not grilled. Steaks on the grill should be saved for the full on Cabs.
