Even though we are surrounded by water in the Charleston area, there aren’t many opportunities to dine with a water view. Vickery’s on Shem Creek affords you the opportunity for good food, and a wonderful view. Now that many of tourists have left the area, you might want to head on over to Vickery’s for lunch. I met a friend there recently, on a rather rainy day. We arrived as the restaurant was opening at 11:30, and were quickly seated at a table with a full view of Shem Creek and the ocean beyond. Since it was a rainy day, we experienced an incredible light show of an approaching thunderstorm and a view of the kayakers trying to beat the storm back to their departure point up Shem Creek.
We enjoyed our appetizers of soup, each of us trying a different one. The crab chowder had nice chunks of crab meat and vegetables. The bean soup was well flavored. My friend had the chicken tenders and a salad which were both prepared fresh and delivered promptly. I had the crab cake sandwich which was well made with chunks of crab and little filler. Having spent many years in Maryland, I am always searching for a good crab cake in the Charleston area. Vickery’s was fairly good, but why does almost every restaurant in the Charleston area put green pepper in their crab cake? The staff didn’t rush us since we were there for a business meeting, and it was also pouring rain outside at the time. I plan to return soon to enjoy the outdoor deck and beautiful fall temperatures.
