On a recent outing, a friend and I shared lunch at the Mustard Seed on James Island. I have been to this particular Mustard Seed several times, and I can honestly say I’ve never been disappointed.
The Mustard Seed consistently has a nice selection of daily specials which they present to you on a White Board tableside. Their specials are usually very interesting and cover the gamut between salad, sandwich, seafood and vegetarian choices.
My friend enjoyed the special of grilled scallops and risotto. Several nicely grilled large scallops were served with a mushroom risotto with just the right amount of seasonings. I had the seafood special that day of grilled salmon on very nice salad greens. The salmon was cooked perfectly and served warm.. The dressing I chose was the house vinaigrette which was well prepared. The bread served was served with olive oil with herbs and was still warm when delivered.
We shared a key lime pie for dessert that was exactly the right consistency and tartness for a “homemade” pie. It was a generous slice and was just the right amount for us to each have our fill.
Our server was quite pleasant, but we felt that she probably had a few too many tables to handle for one person, and was a little slow returning to our area to address our needs.
The Mustard Seed on Maybank is in a former house, and has one major room with an enclosed porch. The interior rooms is rather noisy as is the bar area. If you are looking for a little quieter location, ask for the porch area.
Mustard Seed also has locations in Mt. Pleasant and Summerville, all serving similar menu items. I’ve been to all of them and have not been disappointed.
